Kinda crazy how many fighters are gettng caught for hardcore drugs like this.

I have to look into the benefits of cocaine. I had thought that it was to get high in some form (not even sure what that means) and/or to numb a body part. I know it was used in Holland when I was there to numb a fighter's nose, after he had broken it. So it it is used there in that instance then ... I must just be a geek, I don't understand. Can somebody that understands drugs please explain this to me and the rest of the readers on the forum (the benefits of cocaine before a fight, etc)?

I would have to guess it wasn't to benefit the fight it is a lifestyle he has chosen. Seem to happen too often with money and fame.

Yes it is used in medicine to numb mucous membrane (mouth, nose, eye). But I don't think it can be used as a painkiller. The only sense would be if he takes direct before the fight, that his associative abilities could become better. But that wouldn't be clever because it can also turn into opposite, because of nerve-oberload.

So I think Freak is right, he probably just takes cocaine for other reason than to fight.

If people are taking it just to get high and it has no performance enhancing qualities then why are they testing for Cocaine in the first place. Like am I asking a stupid question. I am ignorant in this whole area and situation so any help would be appreciated.

It would be used in lifestyle/recreational for sure, very good point Gary - but in saying that i guess they are looking at the safety of the fighters as having drugs like that in your system can effect your game and surroundings of what is actually going on. Even days after taking the drugs the side effects can be huge! sleepy, mood swings and just general absence upstairs! I guess they cover their basis with their insurances and responsibility of the fighter if something bad was to happen. For example I work in a dangerous enviroment in mining and we get drug tested on a regular basis as those sort of drugs can have alot of effect on keeping on the ball and focused on the job. I guess they look at it in that way also.

I really don't know BD but from the little research I just did it appears the tests cover not only enhancement drugs but pain suppressing ( weed, ect ) and most forms of illegal drugs, for fighter safety.

Although I believe our world is already "overstimulated", people still find the time to do drugs, like cocaine for example...getting high is nothing new for the celebrity A listers and B listers, even athletes, etc...I don't get the excitement, but whatever makes them happy...

It has to be a recreational thing. I honestly don't see how boosting your heart-rate to an alarming level (depening on the individual), talking a mile-a-minute and dealing with "the drips" could help anyone in a fight.
